During my last camping trip, I had a little friend that hung out around camp. I found him sunning on the rocks at the creek edge, on the rocks making the campfire ring, and I even saw him warming himself on the side of my cast iron after breakfast.
The Western Fence lizard covers most of the western United States. Also know as a “Blue-Belly”, This seems to be the only lizard I have found in Oregon. They can be seen just about anywhere. They are pretty common. In fact, when I lived in the Mojave Desert, we called them a “Common”. They were so common, they were usually not worth putting in the aquarium. You wanted a Zebra-Tail, leopard Lizard, Horny Toad, or the top trophy of the lizard hunter and the closest we had to a Komodo Dragon… a Chuckwalla!
